News from the Library: Last week students in grades K through 5 enjoyed a visit from the Children’s Librarian from Fairfield County District Library, Lancaster. She explained the Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is ‘Be a Superhero, Read!’ Students were encouraged to sign up for the program and they will receive a reading log. Students reading 15-20 minutes a day can easily exceed the goal for the summer and incentive prizes are awarded along the way! Signups begin June 1st at any branch of the library.
Students who complete a summer reading program at any library will be recognized here at St. Mary School. Reading logs stamped by the branch library where the program was completed should be brought in on the first day of school in August.
On Tuesday, fifty-five students were recognized for achievement in reaching or exceeding their Accelerated Reader goal for the past school year. Joining them at our Library ‘Red, White, and Balloon Bash’ were eight other students who either volunteered their time to assist in the school library or who participated in the Battle of the Books competition team. Special awards were given for highest points earned in each grade level and highest points overall for our school. Students had a great time playing balloon games, winning prizes, and enjoying brownie ice cream sundaes. A big thank you to the Home and School Association for funding our celebration, and to the volunteers who helped make it a big success! Next year we would like to see the number of students reaching their goal and being invited to the party double!
