New News:

NBC41 make a differenceNBC4i Make a Difference Grant “Technology is Elementary”! Please help St. Mary School receive NBC4i’s Make a Difference Grant!  Thanks to the hard work of our own Miss Van Evra, we have put together a “Technology is Elementary” grant application in the small schools category for this year’s competition.

In order to move into semi-finals consideration, we need to get as many votes for St. Mary as we possibly can between now and March 23.  All you have to do is log on to this link, register as a new voter, and then vote once every day until voting concludes! It will only take you one minute each day! This $10,000 grant will make an incredible difference in providing more LearnPads and Chromebooks for our students. We can do this! Let’s go IRISH!

FootballFighting Irish Youth Football needs you! We know it’s early to begin thinking about football but much needs to happen to prepare for the upcoming 2015 Season. FIYF is part of the Mid State Youth Football League, and the League has informed us that we are required to field both Junior Varsity (3rd and 4th grades) and Varsity (5th and 6th grades) teams this year or we can no longer participate in the League!

We must let the League know by March 22, 2015 if we are going to have enough players for both teams.  If your son is interested in playing, please complete this form and return to your son’s teacher.  The League allows us to have players that attend Lancaster City Schools on our teams as long as they are registered parishioners of any of the parishes in Lancaster, so spread the word to your friends that do not attend one of our Catholic schools!  As you can imagine, not having a youth program has a negative impact at the high school level.  Please help us keep the Fighting Irish Football spirit alive at the youth level.  If you have questions please feel free to contact  Thanks for your support!

Middle School Rice Bowl for Lenten Service!  Students in the 7th and 8th grade have the opportunity to serve this Lent by collecting donations for the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Rice Bowl Project. Students are asked to volunteer during one of the masses at St. Mary (5:30, 8:45 or 11:15). A team of four students is requested to be at each mass.  To volunteer for a mass (one or more) students should complete the form, or contact Mrs. Yaple to sign-up. Over the past 40 years, CRS Rice Bowl has given $250 million to support programs that prevent hunger and poverty around the world. Seventy-five percent of the money collected is used to provide aid around the world. The remaining 25% of the money collected stays in the diocese where it was given to help those in need in our local community. To learn more about CRS Rice Bowl, and how our St. Mary families can enrich their Lent, visit

Please visit our Advisory Board page to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of the board as well as our Election page to receive information about the election process and to download an application. We welcome your interest and encourage you to seriously consider this opportunity to help support and shape our wonderful school community.

track clipartSaint Mary will be be offering TRACK & FIELD to boys and girls in 7th and 8th grade. We wanted to give you an update about some important dates and required paperwork. Attached are all of the forms that must be completed by the 1st day of practice for any student participating in track and field this spring. These forms can also be found here:  Any student who does not have all of their paperwork turned in will be held from practice until the requirements have been met.  If your child played a fall and/or winter sport, all of these forms should already be submitted and the only forms you will need to fill out and turn in are the concussion form (as this is a per season required form) and the $75 fee to play (which will be collected at a later date – not required by first day of practice).  If you have any questions about paperwork you have already turned in Mrs. Messerly will have a checklist of paperwork that we have on file for your child at conditioning. The first day official practice (and coaching) is allowed is March 9th.  Preseason conditioning began Monday, February 23rd, and will be daily, starting Monday, March 2, after school until 4:15 in the gym. Please bring a change of clothes, snack, water bottle, and optional exercise mat. If you have any further questions, please contact Coach Messerly at 740-681-9075 or

Science Lab Funding Opportunity-Bridge the Gap  St. Mary School middle school has created an excellent science program, sending several students to District Science Fair and on to the Ohio State Science Day each year. Mrs. Yaple, the seventh and eighth grade science teacher has been recognized four times for her excellence in science education with the Governor’s Award for Excellence in STEM Education.

You can help support STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education at St. Mary school by contributing to a “Bridge the Gap” fund through the Catholic Foundation. You choose the size of your donation, knowing it will be used to improve the science facilities at the school. Follow this link to read more about the Catholic Foundation, and the St. Mary School Science Lab project. Our school has achieved recognition for science education using antiquated materials. We can only imagine what can be achieved with a fully equipped science lab!
