NEW NEWS:

LOST & FOUND PILING UP!!  Parents, please check the lost and found at school.  It is already overflowing with many coats, fleece, sweatshirts, etc.  Cold weather is upon us, and I am sure your child can use these!!

House of St Francis Carmel Apple Pop Sale **The House of St Francis will be selling Carmel Apple lollipops at lunchtime this Thursday, October 30 and Friday October 31 for  $.25 each.  The money raised will go toward being an adoptive friend of an animal at the Columbus Zoo.  St Francis had a love of nature and animals, and the House of St. Francis is trying to carry that out in this small mission!

 

HOLIDAY HAPPENING PLANNING MEETING:  Sorry we’ve missed you at the previous meetings.   All meetings are posted on the school website, our final planning meeting is TUESDAY, NOV. 4TH at 7pm in the Copy Room.  Please join us!!!  Several vacancies for chair positions are available for next year!

 

pieNOVEMBER is Pie Sale Month at Market Day and St. Mary!  Each Family that sells 3 pies will be recieve a Grub Day (Date of Grub To Be Announced).  It is a win-win.  Sell three pies, get a grub day and consider donating a pie to the kitchen for the Holiday Happening, or to the Holiday Happening Bake Sale.  Pick up is Saturday, November 8 at 8:30-9:30.  Any questions please call Kendra Gundelfinger @ 740.654.6625 or 740.974.7449.  Order forms will be sent to each child’s classroom for them to bring home.  Top three sellers will receive a gift from Market Day as well as an extra grub day.

Check out MARKET DAY!  Fast and ready, healthy quick meals and appetizers for your holiday parties. Want to order for next month? Pick up a form outside the office and order by Tuesday, November 4 , for delivery on November 8 .  Also check online at www.marketday.com to set up an account to order from home!  On-line orders must be placed by 11:00 p.m. the Tuesday before pick up date each month.  If you would like to volunteer to help with the next Market Day delivery, please contact Kendra Gundelfinger at 740-654-6625 or 740-974-7449. Helpers arrive at 8:00 a.m., pick up will run from 8:30-9:30.

 

Poinsettia and Wreath Sale!     The Saint Mary Teachers’ Association sponsors an annual Poinsettia Sale.  Orders will be taken red_poinsettiathrough November, 19th.   Orders may be turned in to your child’s teacher, the school office, orplaced on the school’s website. NEW THIS YEAR – You can order your Holiday Wreath from St. Mary too!!

Wreaths are approximately 20″ in diameter, made of fresh pine greenery, with pine cones and a bow. Your choice of bow color: red or burgundy.  Payment and Pickup Dates: **Friday, December 5th, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, and **Saturday, December 6th,  10:00am to 12:00pm in the Spirit Center.  100% of the profits from this and the spring flower sale are donated to the school for tuition assistance.  To date, the flower sales have donated over $250,000.00, and many families have benefited from your generous support.  Please ask family and friends to order their Christmas poinsettias and wreaths through us. basketballJUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL INFORMATION! Winter sports are about to begin and we wanted to give you an update about dates and paperwork.  On the school website are all of the forms that must be completed by the 1st day of practice for any student participating in any of our winter sports.  Any student who does not have all of their paperwork turned in will be held from practice until the requirements have been met.  If your child played a fall sport, all of these forms should already be submitted and the only forms you need to fill out and turn in are the concussion form, and the $75 fee to play.  If you have any questions about paperwork you have already turned in, each coach will have a checklist of paperwork that we have for your student at Open Gym.

OPEN GYM began this week.  The first day official practice day allowed is October 31st for Girls & November 7th for Boys. Here are the names and contact info for all of our winter sports coaches:

winter coatWill you help someone be warm this winter? Mrs. Foura’s fifth graders are collecting clean, gently used winter coats, hats, and gloves for those who are in need. Please send any donations to school with your child, and we will keep the collection in Mrs. Foura’s room until the items are delivered to the Saint Vincent de Paul Shop. We will be accepting donations until November 14th. Thank you for your help.

 

HOLIDAY HAPPENING NEWS:

Please sign up for your shift for the Holiday Happening through the link below. REMINDER to ALL 7th and 8th grade parents:  all kitchen workers must wear a hat or hair net.  Bring your own hat; hair nets will be provided.  https://www.saintmarylancaster.com/holiday-happening-volunteer-sign-up/   Our Volunteer Coordinator, Greer Edwards, will be in touch to ensure everyone has the opportunity to work in a desired shift for your designated area.

 

AUCTION ITEMS NEEDED!  We are asking each family to secure/donate at least one item for the silent auction/children’s raffle.  Click here for an auction donation request form.

 

RAFFLE INCENTIVES!  We passed our goal of $10,000 to get the movie and ice cream reward for the entire school!  The Spirit Banner belongs to Mrs Lipp’s 7th grade all week for last week’s highest raffle sales for the previous week with $568.  The Drawing Winners this week – 5th grader Ava Holbrook received the I-tunes card and 1st grader Brody Imes received the Meijer gift card.  7 classes have already earned a Pizza Party by selling an average of $40 of tickets:  1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, Mrs Novena’s 6th, Mrs. Lipp’s 7th and Mrs. Van Evra’s 8th grade.  1st grade, with only 12 students, has the highest average per student with $67. Only 51 students (out of 247) have not sold a single ticket.  Remember, if each student sells just 1 ticket your child’s entire class will get an entire week of casual dress after Holiday Happening. Any students needing more books of tickets can request them through their teachers on any Monday, Wednesday or Friday.  There is no need to print the form to order more books.

 

PARENT RESPONSIBLITIES!   

We ask each family donate the following products, items may be dropped off in the school office (during normal hours), with a note attached with your name and child’s grade:

  • Last Names A – G, one *dessert/ pie to be sliced for dessert for the Chicken & Noodles Dinner
  • Last Named H – M,** one (Regular) 12 pack soda + one 2-liter of your choice
  • Last Names N – S, **one (Diet) 12 pack soda + one 2-liter of your choice
  • Last Names T – Z, **one 24 pack Water + one 2-liter of your choice
  • ALL FAMILIES – Silent or Live Auction item (optional, and kindly appreciated)
  • ALL FAMILIES – *HOME MADE Baked Good for the Bake Sale (optional, and kindly appreciated)
  • ALL FAMILIES – Children’s Raffle item (optional, and kindly appreciated)  
  • ALL FAMILIES-   Gently used uniforms for the uniform exchange
  • ALL FAMILIES-   Gently used or new books for children, cookbooks, reader’s digest, etc.

*Desserts obviously don’t need to be dropped off until Friday, November 7.  **The 12 packs and water will be sold at our Pop/Popcorn Table and the 2-liters will be used in our Ring Toss Game, and may be dropped off anytime.

 ST. MARY NEWS:

 SURVEYS ~ St. Mary School is once again beginning the process of renewing its accreditation and will be sending electronic surveys to all K-8 parents from the Ohio Catholic Schools Accreditation Association (OCSAA) on Monday, October 27.  All parents that complete the survey will earn a casual day pass for their child/ren.  Please print the final “Congratulations” page of the survey and write your name and send it to the school office by November 7 for your child/ren to receive their casual day passes.

 

Sacramental Preparation 2014-2015  Please be diligent in adding these events to your calendar so you may be faithful in attending these important sessions. If you’re unable to attend or miss a session, the responsibility is yours to contact me that following week so we can cover the material you missed. Also, deadlines for sacramental forms are very important, so please be sure to submit information on time or your son or daughter may not be able to receive the sacrament as scheduled. As a parent, you are the primary teacher of the faith to your child. Father Eilerman and I are happy to assist and support you in any way we can with this very essential charge in forming you child’s mind and heart with the teachings of our Lord and His Church. In your charity, please pray that the Holy Spirit may guide and bless our preparations this year.

 

FUNDRAISING NEWS:

Want to get a casual pass for your child?  Buy $200 in SCRIP in one month.  It’s that easy!  You buy gift cards for items you are already going to purchase, and the school earns a portion of the card amount.  These are the designated casual days for this school year: November 14, December 12, January 16, February 20, March 20 (subject to change due to Living Stations of the Cross), April 17 and May 15.  SCRIP UPDATES FOR 2014-2015: We will be processing SCRIP on Monday mornings, in the Copy Room (located beside the Spirit store case, across from the gymnasium door).  Click here for an order form, and you can send your order in ahead of time with your child, or stop in Mondays 8-10 and Friday after school 2:15 to 3.
