Gearing up for Back to School!

Dear St. Mary School Parents,

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  It’s hard to believe that in one week we will be back in session. The teachers, staff, and I are gearing up and getting ready to welcome everyone back next week!

All parents received an email earlier today with important information about the new school year.  It will appear in your inbox from the sender “School Speak – Erin Schornack.”
This year we are welcoming Miss Megan Redd as our new Preschool teacher, Mrs. Debbie Miller as our 8th grade Art teacher (shared with Fisher Catholic High School), and Mrs. Susan Mauger in our school cafeteria. We’re in the process of finalizing the hiring of our new Physical Education teacher who will also serve as our Assistant Athletic Director. Watch for an announcement on our school website very soon!  We’re also happy to share that Mrs. Mary Walsh will continue to serve as our Librarian. Mrs. Walsh, who subbed for us in our Library last year and co-directed our Spring Musical, was selected for the position by a faculty hiring committee. For the 2015-2016 school year, we will continue to share Mrs. Sharon Silleck (middle school grades 6-8 Music teacher) with Fisher Catholic High School and St. Mary Parish, and Mrs. Judy Rehrer (Band Director) with Fisher Catholic High School. Miss Taylor Bonner will be teaching Art for grades K-7 this year.  Additional announcements about our academic classes were included in your back to school email.

Per Diocesan mandate, our school has transitioned to the SchoolSpeak online grade book and communication tool. We are no longer using Progress Book. With the new SchoolSpeak program ALL parents will be given access to their child’s progress for ALL grade levels (K-8). We will no longer print and send home quarterly progress reports until the end of the school year. Our technology coordinator, Mrs. Corcoran, will be sending out information about SchoolSpeak including how to login and access information. The teachers will be using SchoolSpeak as their primary contact with parents, so please take the time to read the information that will be sent from Mrs. Corcoran.

Please join us for our back to school Open House on Monday, August 17 from 5:00-6:00PM. Following the Open House, families are welcome to walk across the street to Firehouse Park for dinner, ice cream, and fellowship. PACK A PICNIC DINNER FOR YOUR FAMILY IF YOU WILL BE ATTENDING! Each family will have a packet of back to school information and forms to pick up at the Open House. Packets will be laid out in the school gym in the main building.

Due to the replacement of the church roof, there will be limited parking next to our primary building for the next few months.  Details about parking lot closure is included in your back to school email.

The first day of school for grades K-8 will be Wednesday, August 19. There will be juice and donuts offered in front of the school by our Home and School Association at 7:30AM! There will also be a 1:00PM early dismissal that day.

Remember to visit the calendar page on our school website for a schedule of all events and activities! The online calendar is updated regularly.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone next week!

In His Service,

Erin Schornack
