2016-17 Sacramental Preparation Information for St. Mary of the Assumption Parish Families

The week of Sunday, 10 July, a postal mailing went out to active St. Mary School, St. Mary PSR, and St. Mary Homeschool parish families who have children who could begin preparing to celebrate the sacraments of Penance and holy Communion or Confirmation this coming year. The mailing contained general information and the calendar of sacramental preparation for parents who intend to begin preparing their children for sacraments this year.

If you are an active St. Mary of the Assumption Parish family and did not receive this mailing, perhaps because you’re new to the parish or haven’t been active in religious education recently, please contact Brian McCauley at the parish as soon as possible to determine a religious education and sacramental preparation plan for your particular situation. Please contact us also if you’ve a child who is “out-of-sequence” in the sacramental life of the Church so we can together determine a timely and prudent plan.

  • Spring is just around the corner and we would like to put together a list of the 7th and 8th graders who would be interested in playing baseball on a combined club team.  Last year our club team, organized by Ben Burke and St. Mary alum Matt Slykerman, participated in practices and games in a fun, laid back environment to build fellowship, learn baseball fundamentals, and give athletes an opportunity to compete at the junior high level.  Every effort will be made to work around the track schedule, practices are local, and games are usually away due to field availability.  If your 7th or 8th grader is interested in playing club baseball, please email Ben Burke at protextrux@yahoo.com so we can ensure there is enough interest to move forward with forming the club team.  Go Irish!

Second Grade Animal Projects

Our 2nd grade recently wrapped up their studies of animal life science with a culminating project. Students researched the group, habitat and features of an animal they chose. They created a research report and a diorama showing their animal in its natural habitat.

6th grade skits

Our 6th grade recently flexed their dramatic muscles by creating skits in Social Studies and Science. Social Studies students explored the history of Eastern Europe and Western Russia. Students researched events and then chose an event of interest to the group. They created their own skits based on the research. Each group selected a writer, director, actors, and prop makers. Utilized 21st century learning skills in group collaboration and application of knowledge. Incorporated standards of language arts, social studies, and technology.

In Science each student selected a “cell part” and was instructed to bring props to represent the function. In one skit a water molecule attempted to enter both an animal and plant cell.

Our 1st Grade is 100 Days Smarter!

Students in our 1st grade class celebrated the 100th day of school recently. Each chose 100 items to place on a t-shirt to celebrate! Great job!
