8th Grade Homework 10-20-14

This is Terra Nova testing week and we are off to a great start!  Students may bring a healthy snack this week.  We will test through Thursday with no testing on Friday.  Thanks for your encouragement and support at home.

Religion:  We are continuing to work on Chapter 5.  Depending on what is covered this week, the test will be given early next week (maybe Tuesday).  The Get Connected is due on test day.

Language Arts:  Students are to write a nightly writer’s notebook entry.  We are not working in Simple Solutions this week. Vocabulary words for Unit 4 will be introduced at the end of this week.  Room 304 test will be next Friday and Room 302 test will be the following Monday.  Practice exercises will be assigned next week.

We have started the science fair research paper process by discussing statements of controlling purpose and generating a list of questions about topics (302 today did not have the lesson on statement of controlling purpose).  Room 304 statements and questions are due tomorrow and Room 302 statements and questions will be due Thursday.  Then we will start the note taking process for the research paper.  I encourage students to carve out about 30 minutes a night to research and take notes on their topic.  We simply can’t cover it all in class.  Thank you for your support at home.

Social Studies:  We are working through Chapter 4.  We have completed guided notes for lesson 2 and students should be reviewing them.  Depending on what we cover this week, the quiz over lessons 2 and 3 will be early next week (Tuesday or Wednesday).

Please send in $2.00 and a current picture of your child for the 8th grade Holiday Happening auction project.  A note was send home last week from Mrs. Collier.  If you have any questions about the picture, please contact her.  Thanks to Mrs. Collier for volunteering her time for this project!
