My dear parents,
Since the young people who make up the student body at St. Mary School come from many different parishes, there may exist some confusion on where the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation are to be celebrated. These Sacraments of Initiation are to be celebrated in the parish church where the person receiving the Sacrament is a parishioner. At times there may be extenuating circumstances which could prevent this from happening. It is then the responsibility of the pastor of the candidate receiving the Sacrament to make a pastoral decision as how best to resolve the issue. The parish we belong to is our spiritual home and the community where our faith is nurtured and supported. In a parochial school setting where the student body is made up of parishioners from different parishes it is important that the host parish does not assume a role that it doesn’t have. Here at St. Mary School, we will always respect the relationship that our students have as parishioners at their own parishes.
Please find below, the calendar for Sacramental Preparation at St. Mary of the Assumption. Please be diligent in adding these events to your calendar so you may be faithful in attending these important sessions. If you’re unable to attend or miss a session, please contact me that following week so I can get you caught-up on the material, pass along sacramental forms to be completed, and address any questions or concerns you may have. As a parent, you are the primary teacher of the faith to your child. Father Eilerman and I are happy to assist and support you in an way we can with this very essential charge in forming you child’s mind and heart with the teachings of our Lord and His Church. In your charity, please pray that the Holy Spirit may guide and bless our preparations this year.
Lastly, if your child, for whatever reason, is “out of sequence” sacramentally, please contact me so an appropriate and timely plan of sacramental preparation can be developed for the coming year.

This is our final week of school and we are ready for summer vacation to begin! If you have not done so, we are asking that you send 45 cents or a stamp with your child so we can mail his/her report card. There will be an early dismissal on Friday June 1st at 1:00; unfortunately there will be no bus service. Have an enjoyable summer with your children and we’ll see everyone in August.

Can you believe there are only 9 more days left of school? We have some fun events planned this week. Mr. Rider will be in our classroom Tuesday morning to teach religion. The Fisher Catholic High School band will present a concert for us that day also. Lastly, tomorrow (5-22) is a Grub Day for summer birthdays (June 2 – August 21). On Wednesday we will have a Social Studies test. On Thursday COSI on Wheels will be at our school after Mass. COSI will present an assembly in the morning before lunch and demonstrations will begin after the lunch periods conclude. We will visit the library on Thursday. Please check for any misplaced books as this is a turn-in day and we will not be taking books from the library. Friday is a Spirit Day. It is also our final spelling test of the year. There will be no school on Monday May 28th as it is Memorial Day.

We had a wonderful weekend with your children as they celebrated their First Holy Communion. All of the students looked beautiful and/ or handsome. As part of the St. Mary tradition, we are asking that the students that have made their First Holy Communion wear their suits and dresses in the procession during the school Mass on Thursday. The students that have not yet made this sacrament and the non Catholic students will also be a part of the procession and are asked to wear either a suit or dress also. If you wish to have your child wear his or her First Communion clothes and they have not yet received this sacrament it is also fine. A class picture will be taken after the Mass. We will change our clothes after Mass.

We have a busy week ahead! We have an early dismissal at 1:00 on Thursday April 19. At this point, we do not have a schedule of which schools are providing transportation at the dismissal time. Our class will have a Community Day on Friday April 20 with members from our parish who will be receiving their First Holy Communion. The St, Mary Parish will celebrate the sacrament of First Holy Communion on Sunday April 22. The school will also have a Script Grub Day on Friday. Because of the Community Day activities on Friday, we will have our Spelling test on Thursday April 19. Let’s have a wonderful week!
