Social Studies: We are working in class on group/partner presentations dealing with a battle of the Civil War. Presentations begin Monday.
Math: The students’ shape olympics project is due Wednesday.
Religion: There is a chapter 9 test tomorrow (Tues.). The Get Connected is due then, too.
Our middle school zoo field trip is this Friday, May 17. If you are driving, it would be helpful if you could stop in the office one day this week to show your driver’s license and proof of insurance. On Friday, please arrive to school at 8:00 as we hope to leave at 8:15. We are returning to school at 3:00.
We are arriving back to school at 3:00, which is after bus dismissal. Students who ride a bus will need to have transportation home.
Students are to wear their House shirts and if they do not have it, they are to wear school uniform. This is a House community day. Students are to pack a lunch.

Language Arts: Poetry Anthology due this Thursday, May 2. Students are to write a nightly writer’s notebook entry. We will begin vocabulary unit 10 with nightly practice exercises. The test will be next week. Quarter 4 poems are due May 16.
Social Studies: There is a chapter 14, sections 3 and 4 quiz Wednesday. Guided notes were given and reviewed in class. A reflection based on Mr. Reed’s visit about the Civil War is due Wednesday. Two friendly letters to our guest speakers are due Tuesday.
Religion: Benediction is Tuesday at 8:15.
This Friday, May 3, is an early dismissal day at 1:00 due to the flower sale. Flower pick up begins at 2:00. Please check your schedule to see if your child can volunteer time to work at the sale. Times are : Friday 1:00-3:30, 3:30-6:00 and Saturday 9:00-12:00. Thank you.
Also, a message from the cafeteria: All accounts in arrears must be paid in full before May 17, 2013. 8th graders are encouraged to have a zero balance as of May 30, 2013. Monies left in 8th grade accounts will be refunded on May 30, 2013 upon request.

7th grade math- This week we are concluding our Statistics chapter with a test over Chapter 9 on Tuesday. Students were given the format of the test today in class. We will start probability on Wednesday. There will be Simple Solutions each night for homework (lessons 121-124).
8th grade math- We began 9.3 today with notes on Independent and Dependent events. There will be a quiz on Friday over 9.3. We will review on Thursday in class. There will be Simple Solutions each night (lessons 117-120).

8th Grade Homework April 22, 2013
Language Arts: Students are to write a nightly entry in writer’s notebook. Poetry anthology is due Thursday, May 2. Quarter 4 poems are due May 16. Vocabulary words for part 2 of “Flowers for Algernon” are due this Wednesday.
Social Studies: There is a quiz over Chapter 14, sections 1 and 2 notes tomorrow (Tuesday). Students are to write an answer on an index card for a topic discussed in class today. That is their entrance ticket into class tomorrow.
Religion: Chapter 8 test and get connected next week. They are to finish a card tonight for 2nd grade First Holy Communion. They also are to finish an essay on our Blessed Mother, Mary.
A form was sent home today about Grandparent’s Mass May 9. It is due back to school this Friday.
This Friday is a Spirit Day.

Language Arts: Poetry anthology is due May 2. Students are to write a nightly writer’s notebook entry. Nightly grammar workbook exercises will be assigned to practice for a quiz on Friday. Quarter 4 poems are due May 16 (rubric will be given).
Social Studies: There is a Chapter 13,section 3 quiz Tuesday (tomorrow). Guided notes were given and reviewed for the quiz. Essay topic given in class to practice.
Religion: There is a Chapter 7 test Wednesday. The Get Connected for this chapter is due Wednesday, too (this is worth points).
8th grade will visit the book fair Wednesday of this week.

Welcome back after spring break!
Language Arts: Poetry Anthology due May 2 and extensive guidelines/rubric given in class. Students are to write a nightly writer’s notebook entry. We started vocabulary Unit 9. There will be nightly practice exercises and the test is this Friday, April 12. There will be nightly grammar practice exercises. There also will be vocabulary practice words for a Literature story.
Religion: We started Chapter 7. The Get Connected for the chapter will be due at the end of the chapter (mid-end of next week).

7th grade- We are beginning stem and leaf plots this week and are continuing in Chapter 9 this week. We will start box plots on Wednesday. Tonight’s homework is page 200-201 #1-18 and Simple Solutions Lesson 113. There will be nightly Simple Solutions and bookwork. Don’t forget to check my homework board before you leave!
8th grade- We are concluding our statistics chapter with the last section of Chapter 10 today (two-way tables). There will be a Chapter 10 quiz on Thursday. Tonight’s homework is p. 207-208 #1-15. There will be Simple Solutions every night (lesson 113, 114, 115 & 116) as well as book work.

8th grade science
Students are starting a unit on heredity and adaptations. We will take a closer look at how changes in the environment led to changes in characteristics of organisms. This will bring us to DNA which is our final topic for the year. My plan is to review some 6th and 7th grade concepts till the end of the year once we have completed life science.
