St. Mary School Kids C.A.R.E.
St. Mary School is pleased to announce the opening of our new before and after school student care program, St. Mary School Kids C.A.R.E.
(Creative, Academic, and Recreational Engagement).
Kids C.A.R.E. will be available to St. Mary School students registered for grades K-8, and will be in operation from 6:00am-7:30am, and from 2:40pm-6:30pm when school is in session. Detailed information about the availability of Kids C.A.R.E. during late start, early dismissal, and calamity days will be announced later this summer. Weekly rates are comparable to similar programs within our area, and discounts will be available to families with two or more children attending each week. Two rates will be used; “drop in” for those who attend the program 1-3 days per week, and “full time” for those who attend the program 4-5 days per week.
Morning Program
Drop in rate (1-3 days per week) = $15.00/week/child
Full time rate (4-5 scheduled days per week) = $ 25.00/week/child
Afternoon Program
Drop in rate (1-3 days per week) = $35.00/week/child
Full time rate (4-5 scheduled days per week) = $45.00/week/child
We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Susan Tooill as the Program Coordinator and Team Leader for the 2012/2013 school year. Mrs. Tooill has been teaching at Blessed Sacrament in Newark for the past thirteen years. She has experience working for Action for Children Head Start in Columbus, served as a teacher in a private preschool, and holds a Kindergarten-Elementary (K-8) professional license with a Pre-Kindergarten Endorsement from the State of Ohio. Mrs. Tooill is a Lancaster resident and St. Mark parishioner.
Kids C.A.R.E. will begin on the first day of school, August 22, 2012.
Families that would like to use Kids C.A.R.E. at any time during the
2012/2013 school year must pre-register for the program by completing a registration packet. Pre-registration is necessary in order to collect required information for students participating in the program.
Registration will open August 1. A $25.00 supply fee per child must be paid in full to the Kids C.A.R.E. Coordinator before August 22, 2012.
Supply fee discounts will be applied for families with multiple children registered in the program.
Kids C.A.R.E. will provide wonderful opportunities for St. Mary students while meeting the needs of our school families. Many thanks to the St.
Mary’s Feasibility Committee for gathering data and preparing for this program, Mary Beth Ah of St. Cecilia for her experience and insight, and St. John School Extended Day Program for their model policy book.

Parents of Seventh and Eighth Graders for school year 2012-13:
Beginning in August 2012, Lancaster public schools will be starting a Club Junior High soccer program for seventh and eighth graders. Since most U14 players will be playing for their school, the Lancaster Parks & Recreation’s “Everyone Plays” Soccer program will not offer a U14 division. They will only have U6, U8, U11, and U13 age groups. Therefore, our seventh and eighth graders who wish to play soccer will have limited options.
We are trying to determine if there is enough interest to put together a St. Mary’s coed soccer team for seventh and eighth graders.
The ultimate goal is that this team will help to improve the quality of players and the standard of team play that will be moving forward to play at Fisher Catholic.
The league coordinator from Lancaster Schools envisions a league based in Lancaster. They are planning to have Sherman and Ewing teams this fall, and adding Amanda, Fairfield Union, Bloom-Carroll, and Lancaster private schools in the future. Rather than wait and have our players miss a year of soccer, we are attempting to form a team for the upcoming fall.
The Lancaster teams are planning on 3 to 4 training sessions per week. Their travel games will be limited to Saturdays and only to Southeast Ohio. Teams they are playing include Circleville, Logan, Unioto, and Zanesville. There won’t be a league this first season, so aside from games against the Lancaster school teams, we will have to schedule our own games with out-of-town opponents.
They will be playing 11 players per side on a full field, using the East Main soccer complex for home games. Lancaster plans to charge around $65/player, the current pay-to-participate fee for Lancaster City Schools, which would cover uniforms (jersey, shorts, socks), fields and officials. We would try to keep our fees at or below that level.
If your seventh or eighth grader is interested in playing soccer on a St. Mary’s club team this fall, please email to quaint6@yahoo.com to let us know of your interest. You may also reply if you have questions, or call our home at 740-689-3288.
Thanks,
Dick Quaintance
