In your Thursday folder you will find another set of directions for adding phone numbers to our emergency call system, School Announcement.  I received word from some of our parents that the directions given out last week did not give them access to the portal needed to add phone numbers.  Please notify the office if these directions do not work for you.  Notify the office if you are in need of these new directions.

Our bleacher area has received a facelift of sorts!  This past Friday, the handrails were installed going down the middle steps, along the sides, and back of the bleacher area.  A few weeks ago, the bleachers were covered with a hard plastic cover and a handicap platform was installed in the upper left corner of the bleachers. Funding for this project came through IDEA stimulus funds for construction on facilities that serve special education students.  Federal law and regulations provide that the purpose of the construction and/or modification must be to improve the services the district provides to students with disabilities.  The improvements will enable us to better meet the needs of those with physical disabilities who attend our school.  Over the past few years we have installed a ramp on the east side of our building for entrance into our building for those in need of a ramp as well as a handicapped accessible restroom located on the first floor of our main building. It is my hope that these additions to our building will enable all who wish to visit our building to do so no matter their physical challenges.

Music Updates

Posted by on Sep 27, 2011 in Music

This quarter, all of St. Mary’s students are enjoying learning the new setting of the Mass, and we are following St. Mary’s Church’s teaching schedule for the learning of it.

K-5 has just started learning music for their Christmas program, The Littlest Reindeer. Students in the 3rd-5th grades who are interested in speaking parts will be auditioning during class time the second week of October. They will be able to take a copy of the script home to practice before this week.

6th Grade is digging into music theory and songwriting with the study of notes, rhythms, and musical structure.

7th Grade is learning about the music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

8th Grade is learning about the first popular music in America, from the Civil War all the way up to World War II.

The Spring Musical has not been chosen yet, however we do have audition dates listed on the calendar. Auditions for the Spring Musical will be November 14th-18th from 3-5pm. Students will need to sign up for a 5 minute slot and prepare from a selected list ONE song and ONE acting scene to prepare. More details TBA.
